Strong Thai Baht Not Deterring the Visitors as Thailand Tourism Booms

New figures released by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) show that Thailand’s boom in tourist visitors shows no sign of abating. In the first quarter of 2013, Thailand recorded a 15% year on year increase in arrivals which was itself a record year. The Kingdom is breaking all expectations of tourism – particularly in light of the record highs that have been seen in the value of the Thai Baht meaning that it should be more expensive than ever for overseas visitors. Yet still they come.

Koh Chang Whale Rescue

Koh Chang has been a buzz over the last few days over the reported rescue of two killer whales from fishing nets. The story broke on 22nd March when official Thai news agency NNT reported that the whales were rescued by members of the Department of National Parks. The mammals were apparently trapped in fishing nets in Salakphet Bay in the south of the island and suffered injuries trying to escape.

White Sand Beach Koh Chang

White Sand Beach is the busiest tourist location on Koh Chang. The beach stretches for 2.5 kilometres, the majority of which is composed of fine white sand perfect for a tropical seaside holiday. History: The Battle of Koh Chang

One of the most dramatic events in Koh Chang’s history was a naval engagement between the forces of the Royal Thai Navy and the Vichy French Navy during WWII. The battle of Koh Chang took place on 17th January 1941 and was actually part of the Franco-Thai War (1940-41) which was fought in an attempt by Thailand to regain territory ceded to France earlier in the colonial era.
