Koh Mapring is the name of not just one, but five different islands in the Mu Koh Chang Archipelago. It is not therefore difficult to see how this can cause an extreme degree of confusion and as a result, it is always advisable not to arrange to meet anyone on Koh Mapring. Joking aside, this guide will try help identify the location of each of the Koh Mapring islands; three of which are part of the Koh Rang island group. {timg title:=”Koh Mapring” thumb:=”images/stories/srv/properties/kohchangmarina/marinepark/kohmapringsmall.jpg” img:=”images/stories/srv/properties/kohchangmarina/marinepark/kohmapring.jpg” gal:=”gallery-content”} Koh Mapring Klong Son BayThe first Koh Mapring is the one that residents of Siam Royal View Koh Chang will be most aware of as it lies on the southern approach to Klong Son Bay, opposite Chang Noi Island. The island is completely uninhabited and rarely visited except by leisure sailors and kayakers. There is nothing of note on the island itself and only the smallest stretch of sand. However it is a good snorkelling spot and home to a wide variety of coral and marine life and therefore it makes a good stopping point when sailing in the region. Koh Mapring – East of Koh Rang Island{timg title:=”Koh Mapring” thumb:=”images/stories/srv/properties/kohchangmarina/marinepark/kohrang1small.jpg” img:=”images/stories/srv/properties/kohchangmarina/marinepark/kohrang1.jpg” gal:=”gallery-content”} The second Koh Mapring is to the south of Koh Chang and is part of the Koh Rang group. It is the smallest of the three islands to the west of Koh Rang (the other two being Koh Thain and Koh Klang). The island is totally insignificant but for sailors wishing to avoid tour boats, it is a quieter spot and the snorkelling is adequate although nothing special. There is a mooring buoy on the east side of the island. Koh Mapring – North of Koh Rang IslandThe second Koh Mapring is to the south of Koh Chang and is part of the Koh Rang group.

Koh Mapring – South of Koh Rang Island{timg title:=”Snorkelling spot of Koh Mapring” thumb:=”images/stories/srv/properties/kohchangmarina/marinepark/kohrang5small.jpg” img:=”images/stories/srv/properties/kohchangmarina/marinepark/kohrang5.jpg” gal:=”gallery-content”} This Koh Mapring lies off the southern coast of Koh Rang, about 100 metres offshore. It is an excellent snorkelling spot and as such, is a great favourite of tour companies. For that reason, unless you enjoy crowded waters it is best for sailors to avoid. Koh Mapring Salakphet BayThe final Koh Mapring is to the south of Koh Chang, nestled in Salakkok Bay between Koh Phrao Nai and the mainland. The ecosystem around this Koh Mapring is dominated by mangrove swamps and although some distance from shore, the surrounding waters are tenebrous and cloudy; certainly not suitable for swimming. The only reason for sailors to visit Koh Mapring in Salakphet Bay is if they have an interest in Koh Chang’s wildlife [link wildlife blog index page]. Watching from a sea vantage point, it is possible to see many birds, reptiles and even silvery langurs.
